Founded in 1860 on the banks of the Nagara River, Juhachiro is a hot-spring ryokan whose name comes from a passage written by the haiku poet Matsuo Basho. Set in Gifu's historic Kawaramachi district, it is also a popular base for viewing traditional cormorant fishing on the river.
