Tsurunoyu is the oldest inn in the Nyuto Onsen area, with records as a lodge for hot-spring visitors dating back to the Genroku era beginning in 1688. The thatched honjin building, once used by guards escorting the Akita domain lords on bathing retreats, still stands beside its famed milky-white open-air bath.
