Founded in 1870 in Yanagibashi as an oil-and-money-exchange shop, Kaneda Aburaten opened its Asakusabashi branch in 1905 and took its current name in 1931. It sells cooking oils from around the world by weight, making it one of Japan's rare surviving specialty oil retailers.
